The Return to My Name: Why I Am Stepping Fully Into Valerie
For most of my entrepreneurial life, people have called me Val. It was familiar, easy, and it fit the version of myself I was living in at the time. But over the past year, something in me began to shift — quietly at first, then unmistakably. It was a spiritual pull, a gentle but persistent invitation to return to the identity God authored for me long before I ever abbreviated myself.
My mother named me Valerie. And when God speaks to me, He calls me Valerie too. Never Val.
The name chosen means brave, valiant, courageous. And as God refined me, He made it clear that I could no longer lead from a shortened version of myself. I could no longer shrink my identity to fit old seasons, old expectations, or old versions of who I used to be.
This wasn’t a rebrand. This wasn’t a marketing decision. This was obedience.
Stepping into Valerie is not about becoming someone new. No. It was rather about returning to who I’ve always been. It’s about honoring the identity God spoke over me. It’s about leading from the fullness of my name, not the fragments.
And as I stepped into Valerie, everything else in my life and work began to align. My calling sharpened. My clarity deepened. My presence shifted. My voice strengthened. My purpose expanded.
Identity is not an aesthetic to put on like makeup. Identity is foundational, it is rooted in the One Who knew me before He knitted in my mother's womb.
And this return to my name marks the beginning of a new era — not just for me, but for the House I lead.
This is the season where I no longer abbreviate myself. This is the season where I embody the identity God entrusted to me. This is the season where I lead as Valerie — fully, boldly, and without hesitation.
If you’ve been feeling the pull to return to your own name — the one God calls you when no one else is listening...I hope my journey gives you permission to honor yours.
Because when a woman returns to her name, she returns to her power.
